The Aashiqan, or Lovers, are two complementary halves of the whole. Lying next to each other in the Garden of Paradise, they represent spiritual completion. In the Sufi tradition, love is not seen as a distraction from the Divine but as a ladder that leads to the Divine. Sufi sages tell us that when we love someone, a bridge is created between two hearts. When we extend that bridge, it becomes the path to God.
